The Beginning: Buffalo Bisons to Tri-Cities Blackhawks
In 1946, the Atlanta Hawks story began when they were the Buffalo Bisons playing in New York. After facing financial troubles, they moved to Moline, Illinois as the Tri-Cities Blackhawks and named themselves after the Black Hawk War of the 1830s. They won a championship under the NBL before joining the NBA through a merger with the BAA.
Milwaukee Hawks: A Brief Stay
The team became known as Milwaukee Hawks in 1951 before moving on again four years later. Despite staying for only four seasons, their time in Milwaukee saw them post back-to-back losing records — this was just a blip along their journey.
St. Louis Hawks Rise to Prominence
They rebranded as St. Louis Hawks in 1955 during which they enjoyed a golden era that lasted thirteen seasons long; it was here that everything came together for them. From making 11 NBA playoffs appearances to winning an NBA title against Boston Celtics led by Bob Pettit, Cliff Hagan and Ed Macauley among others – this team could not be stopped and they made sure people knew about it.
Modern Era: Atlanta Hawks
By moving down south into Georgia State capital city called Atlanta there wasn’t much left but start anew so that’s exactly what happened next year (1968). They have since then shown dominance over Eastern Conference by making ten straight playoff appearances since then(up until this season).
