Roland Garros Prediction & Odds: Who Will Reign on Clay?
The 2024 French Open, the second of four grand slam events on the ATP calendar, begins next week at Roland Garros. The clay court grand slam is one of the best events of the year and has been dominated by Rafael Nadal, who has won 14 titles since 2005. In fact, Nadal, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Stan Wawrinka are the only four players to win the Roland Garros prediction since Nadal first won 19 years ago.
There are plenty of worthy champions heading into the 2024 Roland Garros prediction, however. Casper Ruud is a two-time runner-up and won the Mutua Madrid Open two weeks ago, while Jannik Sinner, the 2024 Australian Open winner, has been by far the most dominant player on the ATP Tour this season. Let’s take a look at the tournament’s recent history, along with the current Roland Garros odds and French Open computer picks for the final.

Can Djokovic Return to Form?
The biggest storyline heading into the Roland Garros prediction is the status of Djokovic. The 24-time grand slam champion is at risk of losing his world No. 1 ranking after starting the season with a 12-5 record and some shocking losses in important tournaments. Djokovic lost in the Round of 32 at the BNP Paribas Open and is coming off of another Round of 32 exit at the Italian Open, losing in straight sets to Alejandro Tabilo.
Surprisingly, Djokovic hasn’t won a tournament this season. He lost to Sinner in the semi-finals of the Australian Open, a grand slam that he has dominated, which was perhaps the beginning of the end of his dominant run on the ATP Tour. In an effort to remedy his poor play as of late, Djokovic did something he has never done in his career: sign up for the ATP 250 Geneva Open, which takes place this week in Switzerland. He had previously said he was only going to compete in Masters 1000 events this season, but clearly feels as though he needs to work out the kinks in his game.

The Health of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner
Sinner hasn’t played since the fourth round of the Mutua Madrid Open and suspiciously withdrew from the Italian Open, his home tournament, two weeks ago due to a right hip injury. He shared a post on social media a few days ago indicating that he was back practicing and ready to compete at Roland Garros, but it’s worth monitoring his health status as he looks to win his second consecutive grand slam: “My preparation for Paris won’t be optimal because I won’t have much time, but what is sure is that I will give everything in order to be in a position to play,” he said at a press conference before the Italian Open.
Alcaraz, the world No. 3 and one of the best clay court players in the world, has also dealt with injury concerns this season. He lost to Grigor Dimitrov in the Miami Open and then suffered an injury in Madrid. Like Sinner, he withdrew from the Italian Open. He’ll be the favorite in each of his French Open matchups and a likely pick to win if he’s healthy, but that remains to be seen.

Roland Garros Prediction
While Djokovic is a 24-time grand slam champion and Nadal has better French Open player stats than any player in history, it feels as though the 2024 French Open could be the start of a new era in men’s tennis. Sinner and Alcaraz are good candidates to win, assuming they’re both healthy, but injury concerns make them difficult bets to win in any Roland Garros prediction. Ruud, especially at +1100 odds, is a great pick to win the tournament considering he’s a two-time runner-up and won the Barcelona Open clay court tournament in April.
