Origins and Early Days of the Seattle Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks are a team that has its roots in Seattle and stands as one of the teams that have been iconic in the National Football League (NFL). The Seattle Seahawks compete in the National Football Conference (NFC) West making their mark in American football with many accomplishments, intense rivalries, and a large following known as “12s”.
Founding Era
Coming into existence as an expansion franchise for the NFL in 1976, the Seattle Seahawks initially played in the NFC. From 1977 through to 2001, they were part of AFC west that shifted base. The 2002 conference realignment saw them move back to the NFC West.
Stadiums and training grounds
Historically, Seattle’s home stadium has changed several times. They started at Kingdome from 1976–1999 before going briefly to Husky Stadium (1994, 2000-01), and finally settling at Lumen Field since then located in the SoDo neighborhood within Seattle city.
The “12s”
Seahawks fans are also known as “12s” or “twelfth fans”. These fans have earned themselves a reputation for being extremely noisy. On two occasions they registered sound levels that were verified by the Guinness World Records until today with the highest peak decibels of 136.6 during a San Francisco 49ers match-up on Dec. 2013, and later against New Orleans Saints recorded another one at around137.6 dB within the same year. Their fan base stretches across several states of the United States of America including Canada where they stand as the only NFL outfit representing the Pacific Northwest because they come from Washington State.
Major Achievements by Seattle Seahawks
Over time, their track records can be seen to include three Super Bowls made it through their participation, 11 division titles and three conference championships. In Super Bowl XL the Seahawks were defeated by Pittsburgh Steelers, won it against Denver Broncos in the Super Bowl XLVIII, and were beaten by New England Patriots at Super Bowl XLIX.

Hall of Fame and Honors
Kenny Easley, Steve Hutchinson, Walter Jones, Cortez Kennedy, and Steve Largentare some of the players from the Seattle Seahawks that have been included in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Seattle Seahawks Rivalries
- San Francisco 49ers: Between 2011 and 2014 there developed a rivalry between the two teams based on dominance as well as history between their coaches. Nonetheless, San Francisco initially gave them a run for their money before they started gaining momentum finally culminating in their win during the NFC championship game thus emerging triumphant. The Seahawk’s lead over their rivaling San Francisco 49ers since rejoining NFL West would be 25-13 then overall standing at 27-17
- Los Angeles Rams: This rivalry began when the Seattle Seahawks moved to NFC West in 2002. There were other memorable games played over this period with some involving these rivals. The rivalry line has been taken further up since Ram’s relocation back to Los Angeles in 2016 which saw them secure Super Bowl glory in year 2022 .At present ,the series record stands with the Seattle Seahawks at 25-24, but they lost both encounters during playoffs.
- Arizona Cardinals: The Seahawks and Cardinals have seen many title challenges within the NFC West since the league reshuffle done back in 2002 till now. Currently leading the series, Seattle’s record against Arizona stands at 23-22-1.
- Green Bay Packers: The rivalry between the Packers and Seahawks in NFL playoff games has been hammered home by some unforgettable moments. This goes from Matt Hasselbeck’s pick-six in 2003 to Russell Wilson’s incredible comeback in the NFC championship game for Super Bowl XLIX.
- Denver Broncos: In the past, the Broncos have been the main rivals for the Seahawks, particularly during the 1980s with John Elway leading Denver. The two met at Super Bowl XLVIII where the Seahawks claimed a commanding 43–8 victory.
